Capiz Chandeliers
The chandelier is a classic lighting device that hangs from the ceiling and contains two or more lights, which are often electric bulbs shaped like candles. This is because the first chandeliers did use candles to create light rather than electricity. These lamps range from miniature to full size and are made from many different materials. The word Capiz is used to describe both a type of shell and a Philippine province. Capiz shell is harvested from the outer layer of the placuna placenta shell, also known as the marine mollusk. This type of mollusk is found in shallow waters on the coast of the Philippines. If you have never seen capiz shell you will be amazed at its delicate beauty. It is translucent, which is one reason it is used for lighting devices. Similar to mother of pearl in appearance, capiz is a bit warmer toned and its color could best be described as a pearlescent beige. In addition to being used for chandeliers, this type of shell is also used for other decor items and even jewelry.
